A Community Built on Pride, Belonging & Connection
Our Story
Established in 2011, PHLAGS+ began with a simple but powerful intention: to create visibility, support and a sense of belonging for LGBTQIA+ people in Port Hedland and the wider Pilbara region.
Over the years, our community has grown to include more than 470 members, each contributing ideas, energy, care and courage.
What started as a small gathering of passionate individuals has grown into a strong and supportive network that continues to evolve with the needs of our region.
Living in regional and remote areas can sometimes feel isolating. Especially for those seeking connection, understanding or safe spaces to be themselves.
PHLAGS+ exists to gently change that.
Through gatherings, conversations, celebration and support, we help create moments where people feel seen, valued and welcomed.
We believe that belonging should never depend on postcode.

Pilbara Pride Festival
● One of the most visible expressions of our community is the Pilbara Pride Festival. A vibrant annual celebration of diversity, identity and connection.
The festival is more than a celebration; it’s a reminder that pride lives here. It brings together families, friends, local businesses, visitors and allies to stand side by side in support of inclusion across the Pilbara.
In a region where visibility truly matters, these moments of celebration strengthen confidence, connection and community spirit.
